Trial and Error

The Outcry for Justice in the Dennis Dechaine Case

Judge grants DNA testing

In September 2021, Dennis Dechaine's lawyers filed a motion for additional DNA testing on the grounds that new, more-sensitive collection technology had become available. Knox County Superior Court Justice Bruce Mallonee approved the motion in July on 2022.  Below is a link to Judge Mallonee’s order. Please note that, despite his reference in the second paragraph to Dennis’s "confession” to the crime, there is no proof that Dennis ever confessed to anyone. Below the judge’s order are links to subsequent filings by Dennis’s lawyers and the State.
